There are two days in my life that I'll never forget. The day I found out I was going to be a grandma and the day Rhiannan Grace was born. When my daughter was a teenager the doctor said she would never have babies of her own. Some years and five pregnancy tests later, no help from fertility specialists, that doctor was proven wrong. Sometimes it's a good thing when doctor's make mistakes.
Her mommy charted her growth and developement during pregnancy with books and ultrasounds. At one point she noted that the baby was the size of a bean. It was clear what kind of personality this child would have because she was determined to keep her sex and her face hidden from the rest of us until she was ready for us to know. So we called her bean. It's a nickname that has stuck with her. Over time it's turned into Gracie Bean. There's a little game that we play.
"What kind of bean are you today?" I'll ask her as we go through the different kinds of beans she could be. So that's how this site got it's name and slogan. It's interesting to note that green beans are her favorite food.
This site was created by our family for your family. A place to learn and grow. It's been quite some time since my kids were babies. When Gracie came along I was a bit dazed and confused by all of the changes in parenting and raising kids. This is a site for parents, grandparents, caregivers and children to share and explore from pregnancy to college. We encourage you to particitpate in the growth and developement of Gracie Bean's Playroom by sending us your comments, suggestions and parenting tips. This beautiful picture, titled "Above All Else", is by Tom Sierak. Visit his site for more of his wonderful artwork.
